quaranTEEN

for our tarpaulin to be posted somewhere in school boards

hi, we've been taping for our movie project. the title was QuaranTeen, it was derived from the movie Quarantine, but our director changed it to "teen", so that means the story is about teens. but to tell, it's not just about another teen story you see in big screens, it's not just about friendship, love and family. it's about sacrifice, fashion, health and whatever. ehem. i was the script writer, the story writer, i made some twist in the story. they said, my story was "awesome", well, i think so. i made the movie tagline too, it was a bit awkward, i don't know if it's "teenage or teenaging", ha, whatever.

unedited, photoshoot.

i'll summarize the story soon:)

who are the pharmacists?

Who are the pharmacists?

Who are good in teaching? Of course, the answer: your college professors, academes, teachers and all who took up degree education. Who are good in blueprinting? -Engineers, architectures and building builders. Who are good in diagnosing and treating patients? The answer: doctors, physicians, health care providers, dentists. Who are good in acting? Answer: judy anne santos, piolo pascual, Angelina jolie, anne Hathaway, the actresses and actors. Who are good in creative things? Answer: writer, artists, painters, photographers etc. who are good in drugs? Answer: nurses, physicians.

Agree? If you agreed, well then you’re wrong. Take a look again. If you didn’t notice something, read the succeeding paragraphs below.

Something is wrong with the first paragraph, in the last part. “Who are good in drugs?”. The right answer is the PHARMACISTS. Though these words are new to you, well, this is the truth, pharmacists are DRUG EXPERTS. “kahit baliktarin mo pa ang mundo”, pharmacists are drug experts. Physicians, nurses and other part of the medical team have wide knowledge in drugs, but they don’t have a wider and more detailed knowledge than those of the pharmacists.

(sa ibang dimension naman)

Nowadays, people define pharmacists as “ayun, yung tindera sa botika”, “andun sa mercury drug”, “loader sa pharmacy”. These answers are big ouches in pharmacists. Why? because they’re not plain vendors in a drugstore. Although those answers define pharmacists today, still, they hurt.

I am not a registered pharmacist; I am an ordinary pharmacy student in san pedro college. In a span of 9 months studying there, I have really changed my perceptions about pharmacists, to be honest, when I’m still in high school, I was shocked when my parents told me to take up that course, because I defined pharmacists like those hurting words above. It changed all when I entered the kingdom of pharmacy. I became more appreciable. Bilib na bilib ako sa mga pharmacists. Hindi ganun ka simple ang mga pharmacists.

I want to share what I have learned. Pharmacists manufacture drugs, that means, they produce medicines, develop drugs, research for new drugs, study drugs’ adverse effects and toxicity. Pharmacists are chemical experts too, actually, chemical engineering and pharmacy are related, they’re cousins forever. Haha. If you put make up in your face, then be thankful to those pharmacists who work in cosmetics company. Health, food and drug watchers are pharmacists too, BFAD (now FDA) directors are pharmacists by the way.

Abroad, pharmacists earn more bucks than nurses, $80 per hour, if you work for 8 hours a day, that means, you can earn $640 a day, multiplied by 50 php, will yield to 32 000 php, enough to buy Nikon D80 or D90. It’s not the bucks that keeps me and inspires me to finish this course, but it’s the pharmacist’s work in a hospital setting, as a part of the medical team, as provider of drug information in patients, as a health care provider, as a laboratory worker, as producer of drugs, and as a drug expert.

Pharmacy is not a joke, you have to pass in a filter paper, you need more energy for your solvent to pass in a semi-permeable membrane. Pharmacy includes, botany, human anatomy, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmacognosy, pharmacokinetics, pharmacoeconomics, clinical pharmacy, higher chemistries and a little physics, little microbiology. You don’t need to be good in trigonometry or calculus, but you need to be good in conversion units, such as micrograms, fluidrachms, minims, avoirdupois and apothecary systems. Pharmacists also compound, dispense, mix, and make drugs. Pharmacists read physician’s not-so-good (refers to their penmanship) prescriptions.

Science and technology is also a part of a pharmacist today. There are now automated robot dispensers, pharmacy systems that help pharmacists regulate patients or drug records, that scenarios are not common in the Philippines, but it will surely capture your eyes in some countries.

I think this is long, so, next time, if someone will ask you, who are the pharmacists, answer him/her, “they’re the drug experts, they’re very good in drugs”.

pre-valentine

sara: jue... jue... jue... kita mo?
jue: sino?
sara: si chuck ali...?!
jue: ah, yung gwapo? sinong chuck?
jue: huh? hala, gwapo. kaya pala familiar.
